We're a Houston Coffee Company looking for a manager for our two coffee shops. The ideal candidate will have 3-5 years of foodservice management experience (ideally coffee-related experience) as well as a strong customer service skill set. Pay and Benefits are negotiable depending on your level of experience and skills.

Key Responsibilities:

Operational Management

§ Oversee daily operations, ensuring efficiency and high service quality during peak hours.

§ Float between multiple locations to optimize staffing and manage operations seamlessly.

§ Address unforeseen & unexpected operational challenges and resolve issues in real-time to maintain service standards.

Coffee Program Standards

§ Oversee and Elevate the Coffee Program ensuring that the selection, preparation, and presentation of all coffee beverages & seasonal offerings meet high specialty standards.

§ Manage supply chain of coffee beans, understanding the difference roasts, origins, and flavor profiles representing our coffee roaster.

§ Establish protocols for brewing, espresso extraction (Dialing-in), and milk steaming, emphasizing attention to detail to ensure consistency across both concepts.

Café Culinary Program

· Oversee the ordering, delivery, inventory and supply chain management of pastries, baked goods, and prepared foods through our wholesale partners.

· Ensure staff is trained and disciplined about clean handling, presentation of pastry case, and compliant with up-to-date food handler’s certification.

· Ensures necessary steps are proactively taken to ensure compliance with health inspections though delegating regular cleaning to staff and up to date certifications are filed with the city.

Training and Staff Development:

§ Ensure Baristas are proficient in both automatic machine operation for high-volume service and manual brewing techniques for craft coffee preparation.

§ Provide ongoing education on advanced barista techniques, coffee bean varieties, brewing methods, and customer service to ensure that staff can articulate the café[MG1] ’s coffee offerings and provide an exceptional guest experience.

§ Provide training for FOH operations such as the POS systems, sales techniques and food knowledge.

Hospitality Standards

§ Ensure exceptional hospitality and service standards, training staff to meet high customer service expectations.

§ Lead by example, ensuring a welcoming environment for all guests and responding to customer concerns promptly.

Budgeting and Cost Control:

§ Manage labor costs by adjusting staffing dynamically between locations, especially during critical morning hours, to align with customer demand and control expenses.

§ Oversee vendor and supplier management, ensuring mindful ordering practices to maintain stock levels while controlling costs and avoiding over-purchasing

§ Assist in tracking sales trends and forecasting inventory needs, ensuring alignment with financial objectives and operational demands.

§ Work closely with the chef and vendors to forecast pastry and supply orders based on daily and weekly sales patterns.

Financial Analysis & Reporting:

§ Review and analyze P&L (Profit and Loss) statements regularly to assess labor, inventory, and other operational costs, identifying areas for improvement in profitability.

§ Provide insights and recommendations to improve cost control and drive overall café performance while maintaining service and quality standards

§ Collaborate with the marketing department to create and implement promotions, events, and menu strategies that drive customer traffic and increase sales.

§ Use POS Software to prepare and submit End of Day reports, including sales summaries, labor costs, and inventory tracking.

§ Report pastry counts to the culinary team daily to ensure proper ordering for the following day.

Qualifications :

§ 2-4 years of hospitality or food service management experience preferred.

§ Coffee experience preferred but not required.

§ Experience with Toast POS or similar point-of-sale systems.

§ Familiarity with P&L management and cost control.

§ Strong leadership and team management abilities.

§ Excellent problem-solving skills in a fast-paced environment.

§ Ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams, including marketing, for promotional efforts and branding.

Preferred Skills:

§ Understanding of hospitality standards and how to elevate the customer experience.

§ Experience in marketing and promotions, including coordinating with design teams to ensure cohesive branding.

§ Knowledge of inventory management and cost-effective purchasing.

§ Strong communication skills for effective staff leadership and collaboration with departments.

We're closed on all holidays and for portions of the summer and winter holidays (college schedule). We offer coffee training as well as support with admin functions (HR, payroll, payables). The Original shop has been open for 11 years, we added the second location this year. The ownership company has been in business in Houston for 21 years.
