Job Description

This position supports the California Department of Public Health’s (CDPH) mission and strategic plan by serving as the Health Communications Specialist with a focus on communications for communities impacted by health inequities and environmental justice issues. The candidate will develop, support, and evaluate strategies to serve and fulfill the health education and communication needs of these communities. The Health Program Specialist I (HPS I) works under the direction of the Senior Environmental Scientist Supervisor of the Community Health Education Unit within the Exposure Prevention and Education Section. The HPS I will plan and contribute to the evaluation of a variety of activities in the unit. They will help build capacity in communities affected by the social determinants of health by training community health workers and other community leaders about environmental exposures that impact them. The HPS I will provide communication and health education support to communities impacted by health inequities and environmental justice issues. Ability to prioritize and plan to meet multiple competing deadlines. Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
