Cost Accountant - Hybrid in Clarksburg, MD

• CFS is partnering with a repeat client, a government contractor in Montgomery County, to hire a Cost Accountant to join their accounting team on a contractual basis

• Schedule: 9am-5pm, M-F, 40 hours per week. Hybrid in Clarksburg, MD (3 days on site, 2 days work from home)

• Reports directly to the Controller (placed by CFS!)
• Salary $75,000 - $100,000 depending on experience

• Collaborate with plant personnel to analyze and validate Bills of Materials, ensuring accuracy and alignment with production.
• Evaluate cost center structures and provide insights into plant profitability performance, identifying trends and areas for optimization.
• Support the development and refinement of costing practices as they pertain to proper use of work orders.

• Monitor and support compliance with key cost accounting controls, including Physical Inventory Counts, Obsolete Inventory Reserves, and Manufacturing Variances.
• Conduct reviews to ensure adherence to established procedures and identify opportunities for strengthening controls.
• Work closely with plant teams to resolve discrepancies and implement corrective actions where necessary.

• Identify and implement opportunities to enhance cost accounting structures, working toward a standardized model that minimizes deviations across plant operations.
• Assist with streamlining processes, reducing inefficiencies, and driving consistency in cost accounting practices.
• Participate in specific projects related to Cost Accounting, ensuring the successful execution and delivery of key initiatives within the function.

• Bachelors in Accounting, Finance, or related a plus and 5+ years of cost/project accounting experience
  
  • Knowledge of FFP contracts, rates and costing, revenue recognition, and subscription experience preferred
• Experience with Oracle NetSuite highly preferred
• Experience in government contracting/manufacturing industry highly preferred
• Proficient Excel skills required (pivot tables, sum if, vlookup, etc.)
• Must be a US citizen and be able to pass a criminal background check
