The Safety Manager is responsible for developing, coordinating, and implementing occupational health procedures to promote and ensure effective safety operations within the hospital. This role focuses on fostering a safe environment for all staff and patients by adhering to industry standards and regulations.

Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Oversee the Staff Training Program, including assessment, creation, and addition of training curriculum through in-person and online training, utilizing the Learning Management System.
  • Collaborate with management to develop, prepare, and implement safety policies and procedures.
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local safety laws, regulations, codes, and rules.
  • Complete required recordkeeping and reporting, including updating and maintaining all regulatory binders.
  • Identify opportunities to minimize workplace injuries, accidents, and health problems.
  • Conduct employee training on applicable safety standards and review training for revisions and improvements.
  • Conduct safety inspections and audits to assess compliance with safety regulations.
  • Run tests of various safety and security alarm systems throughout the facility, coordinating repairs with the Alarm Company as needed.
  • Assist the Safety Officer with DPH, TJC, and CMS survey processes and response, as well as Disaster Drills and Events planning and response.
  • Run fire drills, respond to activations, and prepare written reports.
  • Inspect, document, and create work orders for Environmental Life Safety Rounds.
  • Schedule maintenance and create work orders for Fire & Safety apparatus regularly.
  • Coordinate with the Alarm Company to resolve deficiencies in fire or security alarm systems and document repairs.
  • Collect hazardous waste and troubleshoot minor repairs to medical equipment, coordinating necessary repairs with the Biomed Company.
  • Create, track, and monitor fobs and the security system through the Entre security program.
  • Monitor the RAVE Guardian Emergency Alert System and conduct camera audits and investigations as needed.
  • Develop and support emergency management initiatives, including planning, training, and response coordination for various emergencies.
  • Collaborate with local emergency services and agencies to ensure effective emergency response protocols are in place.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for safety and security matters.
  • Communicate safety information and updates to employees.
  • Oversee security personnel and manage security operations.
  • Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of security systems and protocols.
  • Responsible for managerial duties such as policy creation, review and updates, and staff performance evaluations.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Required Skills/Abilities:

  • Must have the ability to function optimally in a stressful environment, and the ability to remain calm in emotionally charged situations.
  • Must have a valid Driver’s License with a driving record acceptable to SHH insurer.
  • Proficient in operating electronic security equipment, including CCTV, radios, and other security systems.

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in health and safety, Safety Engineering, Environmental Health, or a related field required.
  • Experience working within the guidelines of the Joint Commission, CMS, OSHA, and NFPA.
  • Minimum of three years of experience in a hospital setting
  • Minimum of five years of occupational health and safety experience.
  • Minimum of one year’s experience conducting training.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to stand, walk, and patrol for extended periods, covering various terrains across the campus in different weather conditions
  • Capability to lift and transport items up to a specified weight limit (e.g., 25-50 lbs) as needed for deliveries or assisting patients.
  • Endurance to respond to emergency situations and remain alert during long shifts.
  • Capability to bend, stoop, and reach to check locks, windows, and other access points.
