This position does not start till February of 2025!
This position is a Part-Time, Temporary position starting in February and ending at the end of October.
Must be able to work weekdays, weekends, and some holidays. Open time availability is preferred.
We will try to place you in the department that best meets your skills and preferences. However, flexibility is required and you may be moved from department to department as business needs require.
Job Summary:
Under the direction of the Director of Visitor Services, you will act in a in a fast-paced environment to provide excellence in customer experience by focusing on safety, quality, professionalism, and engagement.
Security - Parking Lot
- Greets guests with a smile and friendly attitude
- Directs cars parking in parking areas, and assists with bus lots when needed
- Positions cars to facilitate safety and efficiency
- Maintains the security of parked vehicles by monitoring and calling in any concerns
- Keep the parking area free of debris
- Other duties as assigned.
Visitor Services - Scanning or Cashier
- Greets guests with a smile and friendly attitude.
- Engage with guests and work toward creating a world-class customer experience.
- Operate Point of Sale (POS) system, handle money and make change
- Provide visitors with information and assistance
- Operate a multi-line telephone system, base radio, and public address system.
- Scan zoo tickets
- Respond effectively during emergencies and provide services such as first aid, lost & found, and equipment rentals for zoo visitors.
- Provide clerical support for visitor services operations, which includes data entry, coping, typing, filing, and operating the postage meter and other office equipment.
- Cleaning and maintenance of the rental equipment.
- Other duties as assigned.
Food Services - cook, dishwasher, cashier
- Greet all visitors upon entering the Café.
- Engage with guests and work toward creating a world-class customer experience.
- Operate Point of Sale (POS) system, handle money and make change.
- Take orders for food
- Stock and receive supplies
- Clean kitchen and outside eating area.
- Follow food portioning standards
- Ensure that all orders are completed in time and with the correct priority.
- Keep the cooking, storage, and prep areas clean, neat, and well-stocked.
- Adheres to health and safety standards
- Correctly place and store clean equipment, dishes, and utensils in assigned storage areas.
- Stocks serving stations, cupboards, refrigerators, and other assigned areas with necessary dishes and utensils.
- Other duties as assigned.
Aviary Attendant
- Greet all visitors upon entering the Wild Bird Walkabout
- Engage with guests and work toward creating a world-class customer experience
- Execute cash-handling transactions and make change
- Monitors the health, welfare and safety of birds in the aviary.
- Helps clean and maintain the exhibit.
- Other duties as assigned.
Commissary - Lettuce Maker
- Prepares Giraffe feedings, deliver feed and support the Commissary Staff.
- Cut and sort lettuce by size. Place 2 large and 1 small leaf per food tray. Stack 10 food trays together and put rubber band around them. Put 120 trays or 12 bundles of 10 into a tub and zip tie it shut. Place the tub in fridge in order of first in first out. Need to be able to produce 4-5 tubs a day and be able to life 40 – 50lbs.

Gift Shop - cashier
- Greet all visitors upon entering the Gift Shop
- Engage with guests and work toward creating a world-class customer experience
- Stock and clean shelves, counters, or fixtures.
- Assist with advertising displays and merchandise on counters or fixtures to promote sales.
- Unpack, count, mark, or tag merchandise according to established procedures.
- Answer customers' questions concerning location, price, and use of merchandise and availability
- Communicate management instructions to other sales associates
- Performs cash register functions
- Responsible for accurate cash handling and POS operation according to Gift Shop policies
- Wraps and/or bags merchandise for customers.
- Other duties as assigned.
Requirements:
- Must be outgoing and friendly
- Must be willing to work with birds
- Exceptional customer service skills preferred
- Previous cashiering/cash handling experience preferred
- Food Handlers preferred
- Retail experience preferred
- Lift up to 50 lbs
- Able to stand for 8 hours
Job Qualifications:

Language Skills:
- Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively and present information in one-on-one or small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization. The ability to speak Spanish is helpful.
Mathematical Skills:
- Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, proportions, percentages, area, circumferences, and volume.
Other Skills and Abilities:
- Excellent cash handling skills required both manually and automated. Basic computer skills with working knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel. Must have or obtain the Smith County Health District Food Training Certification. Must have a valid Texas driver's license and driving record meet the criteria for insurability under The Caldwell Foundation’s fleet liability insurance policy. Merchandising and creativity a plus.
Education:
- High School Diploma or General Education Diploma (GED), some experience in the food industry or cash handling preferred.
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:
- Valid Texas Driver License
- Food Training Certification
Reasoning Ability:
- Ability to apply common sense understanding to interpret and carry out a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form in a timely fashion. Ability to deal with problems involving a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, and the ability to adjust focus. Extremely fast-paced environment.
