Job Description

Position Summary:

The Transportation Safety Manager will oversee the College’s fleet of vehicles and ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local regulations as necessary. This role will also be responsible for developing and implementing safety training programs conducting road assessments for certifying drivers and promoting a culture of safety within the College community.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Fleet Management:
    • Supervise and manage the College’s transportation fleet of vehicles, including scheduling maintenance, repairs, and inspection with the motor pool
    • Ensure that all vehicles are properly registered, insured, and in compliance with regulations.
    • Monitor vehicle usage and mileage to optimize efficiency and minimize costs.
  • Safety Training:
    • Develop and implement comprehensive safety training programs for all College drivers.
    • Conduct regular safety meetings and training sessions to reinforce safe driving practices with our per diem driving staff
    • Work with Risk Management concerning Accidents or Incidents.
    • Keep the Certified Driver List updated along with accurate record-keeping
    • Checking MVR records to ensure compliance with the certified driver policy
  • Compliance:
    • Ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local regulations related to vehicle operation and safety.
    • Maintain accurate records of vehicle inspections, maintenance, and driver training.
    • Monitor and report on key performance indicators related to fleet safety and efficiency.
  • Driver Management:
    • Train new drivers.
    • Road test all potential drivers and approve or deny their assessment
    • Evaluate driver performance and provide feedback and coaching.
    • Address disciplinary issues as needed

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in transportation management, logistics, or a related field preferred but not required.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in fleet management or transportation operations with a safety-conscious mindset.
  • Valid driver's license with appropriate endorsements.
  • State-certified Instructor - either CDL A or B certification or Driver’s Education license
  • Strong knowledge of regulations and safety standards.
  • Excellent organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in developing and delivering safety training programs.
  • Familiarity with fleet management software and technology preferred but willing to train
